I guess this is my attempt at a lighthearted piece. But as we can see at the top of the collage, we can be burned at any time. When I was young my best buddy at the time went through a ‘play with matches’ phase. One summer afternoon he unintentionally started the shrubs on fire. The paint on the house blistered and the fire department came. I will always remember him running around from the front of the house yelling “fire” just as I was knocking on his back door. This collage came about intuitively, or some may say organically. What I mean is, there was no preconception to make this piece. I burnt the edges of the packing material long before I thought to collage the matches and matchbook.
